Subject: Broadband Program Reminder for Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001
From: Anne Arundel Co. High Tech Council (aachtc@toad.net)
Date: Mon Jan 22 2001 - 13:19:07 PST

Please join us for the AACHTC's first program of 2001! It will be held in
room 219 of the Cade Fine Arts Building at Anne Arundel Community College
at 6:30pm on Tuesday, January 23, 2001.

The Topic: The Implications of Outlook for Broadband Communications
            in Anne Arundel County
Speaker: David Troy, President & CEO, ToadNet, Inc. (Myself)

Program Description:

Broadband technologies like DSL, cable, wireless, and traditional
high-speed T1 & T3 connections will play an increasingly important part in
how businesses operate and in how consumers interact with them. Each of
these technologies has both strengths and limitations, however, and not
all can be implemented quickly.

Recent financial downturns in the technology and telecom segment have also
created an environment that demands profitability and necessarily limits
speculation and experimentation.

Given this "new world," find out why everything that's been assumed about
telecom will be turned upside down, and how and when various kinds of
broadband services will be deployed. And find out why dialup Internet
access, particularly with the recent approval of the faster v.92 modem
protocol, will be the predominant form of Internet access through 2005.

Deploying broadband technology will also create new opportunities for
economic growth. With serious limitations on office space and developable
land, particularly here in the county, broadband telecommuting is a viable
way to spur environmentally-friendly economic development, and even import
capital into the region from around the world. But to realize this dream,
businesses need to learn how to manage "virtual workplaces" and the
cultural and software-architectural challenges that come with them.

Please join us for what I hope will be an informative and thought
provoking presentation. Your questions are welcome. As always, there is
NO COST to attend and refreshments & snacks will be served. We hope to
see you there, and we apologize in advance for the shorter-than-usual
notice on this reminder -- it was an oversight on our part!

Best Regards,

David Troy
