Subject: Vortex and pointer sizes

Greetings.
Because I think Cecil is one of the best languages out there, I have
recently started to work on packaging Vortex 3.0 for Debian
GNU/Linux. In the process, I have run into some minor issues. Most
just result from using newer versions of libc and g++ than you tested
against, and can be fixed by tweaking a line or two of code.
However, there is another issue which is not quite so trivial to
resolve: Debian GNU/Linux runs on multiple hardware platforms, some of
which use 64-bit pointers. I see several potential ways to handle
this situation, the best of which would probably be to modify the
compiler to produce intermediate code that runs correctly with either
pointer size (perhaps with some assistance from a configure script run
at build time).
In order to avoid inadvertently duplicating effort, I would like to
know whether you have any patches to 3.0 along those lines. (If not,
no big deal; I ought to be able to throw something together on my
own.) Conversely, I intend to send you any patches I have when the
Debian packages are ready for release. I will omit Debian-specific
code as irrelevant unless you specifically want to see it.
At any rate, keep up the good work.
