Subject: Felleisen giving a talk at UW? What a good idea...

Keunwoo, Andrew and I were lamenting yet again over how we have to teach
C++/Java in our introductory programming courses, and how places like
Rice, MIT and Penn teach ML or Scheme. But lamenting over our situation
doesn't do us much good. So we thought instead about what concrete actions
we can take.
One idea that came up is to invite Felleisen to give a talk at UW about
DrScheme (something like his POPL talk). Getting him to come as a
distinguished lecturer, or even just as a 519/520 seminar, would be great.
I think it would be a good and manageable first step. It would raise
awareness and encourage discussion on this topic, which might then lead
to concrete changes in our curriculum. Craig, do you think this is a
good idea? If so, what actions do we need to take to get it done?
Sorin
