Dear Colleague:

Last year AT&T expanded its Internet research effort by founding the
AT&T Center for Internet Research at ICSI (ACIRI), located in
Berkeley, and by establishing a lab in Menlo Park, California.
These two groups, in combination with AT&T's existing lab in Florham
Park, New Jersey, represent a significant commitment by AT&T to
support world-class research on issues relevant to the future
Internet.

I am writing to let you know that the group in Menlo Park is actively
recruiting. Like our colleagues in New Jersey and at ACIRI, our
charter is to establish a strong and visible research program in the
area of Internet architecture and protocols. Current work in our lab
is focusing on, among other things, IP multicast, network measurement
and management, multimedia streaming and caching, and scalable
architectures for real-time service. While we welcome candidates who
share these interests, we also expect the people we hire to help shape
our future research directions.

There are currently 4 people in the group (myself, Bill Fenner, Edith
Cohen and Reza Rejaie). In addition, we work closely with our
colleagues at ACIRI. The ACIRI group includes Scott Shenker,
Sally Floyd, Vern Paxson, Mark Handley, Dick Karp and Sylvia
Ratnasamy. We also have strong ties to AT&T's research lab in Florham
Park, NJ. If you have graduating students who are interested in
industrial research labs, I would encourage them to consider our
group. I should also mention that AT&T is recruiting at its Florham
Park lab; I would encourage interested students to apply there as
well.

We are also looking for qualified students for our summer intern
program. Please let your more junior students know about this
opportunity.

Sincerely,

Lee Breslau
